Research
Street harassment and violence is a common everyday experience, particularly at night. Women and LGBTQIA+ individuals experience higher vulnerability in public space. Even in the absence of a direct physical threat, the possibility of harassment and constant awareness of one's surroundings can cause ongoing stress and anxiety when travelling.

Along is a mobile safety app focused on helping the user get where it needs to go more safely. Whether heading home or moving from A to B, the app provides a greater sense of support and reassurence while walking alone, especially at night. Designed primarily for women and LGBTQIA+ individuals, the app provides real-time support tools to help users feel and be safer in vulnerable situations in public spaces.

It combines multiple safety features to provide faster and more accessible support while walking. Rather than relying on separate apps for navigation, emergency support, live location sharing or safety tools, it brings all these functions together in one place. The app allows users to share their live location with trusted contacts so their journey can be followed in real time. Features such as the ability to play a loud noise to draw attention and the option to record video to document surroundings provide reassurance in uncomfortable situations. In SOS mode, emergency notifications including GPS coordinates will be sent automatically to the police and the user's trusted contacts. Fast access is enabled by double clicking on the 911 button without accidental calls.
