Thirty years after the establishment of the Gender and Design area of expertise at KISD and inspired by Judith Butler’s Gender Trouble, un-trouble challenges society’s understanding of gender and diversity. It examines how gender is continually constructed and how we all, consciously or not, reinforce power structures and rigid norms that marginalize or discriminate. Un-trouble is the title of the exhibition, the panel discussions, the workshops, and the book.
In a team of nine students, we designed the un-trouble book, which was presented for the first time as part of the exhibition. Ninety-nine topics from a total of more than 500 works by KISD students from the last 30 years in the field of gender and design were curated. Every student in the book group created double pages showcasing these works in a contemporary way after preparing the project description. Once the work in the book team was finished, I helped organize and set up the exhibition in the event group.

The book is not only intended to serve as a source of information, but also to stimulate reflection, initiate discussions, and open up new perspectives. The aim is for readers to be inspired by engaging with these topics to initiate their own reflections and enter into a dialogue about social, cultural, and political issues that affect us all. Due to its very positive feedback in the exhibition, there are also plans to publish it with a publishing house in 2026.
